Stunning wedding venues across Cheshire and the North West by Roxanne
One of the greatest joys of having a celebrant is freedom – you can get married anywhere that’s special to you. No need to find a licensed venue. No restrictions on outdoor spaces. Just you, your chosen setting, and the people you love.
As a celebrant based in Cheshire, I’ve had the privilege of conducting ceremonies in some truly beautiful venues across the region. Here are some of my favourites, along with what makes this area so special for weddings.
Cheshire – Elegance meets countryside charm
Why Cheshire is perfect for weddings:
Cheshire offers something for everyone – from exclusive country estates and historic manor houses to rustic barns and intimate gardens. The countryside is stunning, the towns are vibrant, and it’s beautifully accessible for guests travelling from across the UK.
Standout venues:
Tatton Park, Knutsford
My hometown offers one of Cheshire’s most spectacular wedding settings. Tatton Park has several ceremony options – the medieval Old Hall for intimate, atmospheric celebrations, the grand Tenants’ Hall in the mansion for traditional elegance, or outdoor ceremonies in the stunning parkland. The versatility here is remarkable.
The Hidden Barn at 94, Knutsford
A beautifully restored building with origins in the late 17th century that blends rustic charm with contemporary style. Perfect for couples wanting that laid-back, bohemian vibe without sacrificing comfort or sophistication.
Mere Court Hotel, Knutsford
Set in beautiful grounds with a lake, this hotel combines elegance with warmth. Great for couples who want a traditional country house feel.
Larkspur Lodge (near Knutsford)
A hidden gem offering intimate celebrations in a gorgeous rural setting.
Rookery Hall Hotel and Spa, Nantwich (Handpicked Hotels)
Luxury and elegance in the heart of Cheshire. Perfect for glamorous, high-end celebrations.
What I love about Cheshire ceremonies:
Cheshire venues tend to be well-organised, professionally run, and absolutely stunning. You get that perfect blend of countryside beauty with easy accessibility – Manchester Airport is close, motorway links are excellent, and there are plenty of accommodation options for guests.
Greater Manchester – Urban cool meets cultural diversity
Why Manchester is exciting for weddings:
If you want vibrant, modern, culturally rich, Manchester delivers. From industrial warehouse spaces to historic town halls, from intimate restaurants to contemporary hotels – there’s something for every style.
The Manchester vibe:
Victoria Baths
For quirky, creative couples, these restored Edwardian swimming baths offer a truly unique setting. The tiles, the architecture, the sheer originality – it’s unforgettable.
Manchester Art Gallery
Getting married surrounded by art? For culture-loving couples, this is perfection.
Elizabeth Gaskell House
For intimate, literary-inspired celebrations. This beautiful historic house offers warmth and character.
Industrial warehouses (various locations)
Manchester has brilliant warehouse venues – exposed brick, high ceilings, blank canvas spaces you can transform into whatever you dream.
Historic town halls
Manchester and surrounding Greater Manchester towns have stunning Victorian architecture. These grand spaces work beautifully for traditional ceremonies with a twist.
What I love about Manchester ceremonies:
The energy. Manchester weddings tend to be creative, inclusive, and full of personality. This is where couples really make bold choices and create celebrations that break the mould.
Merseyside – Coastal beauty and cultural richness
Why Merseyside surprises people:
Liverpool and the surrounding area offer way more than people expect – stunning coastline, beautiful parks, historic architecture, and incredibly welcoming venues. Plus, it’s often more affordable than other regions whilst still offering quality and style.
The Merseyside advantage:
Coastal venues
The coastline around Liverpool offers dramatic backdrops for outdoor ceremonies. Imagine exchanging vows with the sea as your backdrop.
Anfield and Goodison Park
For football-mad couples, yes, you really can get married at your team’s stadium. It’s quirky, it’s fun, and if football is part of your story, why not?
Historic buildings
Liverpool’s architectural heritage means there are loads of characterful buildings perfect for unique celebrations.
Parks and gardens
Sefton Park, Calderstones Park – green spaces throughout Merseyside offer beautiful natural settings.
What I love about Merseyside ceremonies:
The warmth. Merseyside venues and suppliers tend to be genuinely friendly and down-to-earth. Couples here often create celebrations that feel relaxed, inclusive, and full of joy.
Shropshire – Romantic countryside escapes
Why Shropshire is worth considering:
If you want romance, natural beauty, and a genuine escape-from-it-all feeling, Shropshire delivers. Rolling hills, historic manor houses, and countryside as far as the eye can see.
Shropshire highlights:
Barton Grange
This Shropshire venue combines elegance with stunning rural views. Perfect for couples wanting a blank canvas to create their personalised countryside outdoor experience.
Country estates and farms
Shropshire is full of working farms and estates offering glamping sites, barn venues, and outdoor celebration spaces.
What I love about Shropshire ceremonies:
The sense of occasion. Shropshire weddings often feel like genuine retreats – guests can spend a whole weekend together, there’s space to breathe, and the natural surroundings create a magical atmosphere.

Beyond traditional venues
Remember, with a celebrant, you’re not restricted to wedding venues. Some of my favourite ceremony locations have been:
- Private gardens (your own or a family member’s)
- Public parks (with the right permissions)
- Favourite pubs or restaurants
- Woodland clearings
- Beaches
- Even people’s living rooms for the most intimate celebrations
The question isn’t “where are you allowed to get married?” – it’s “where would be meaningful for you?”
Questions to ask when choosing your venue
Does this place feel like us?
Your venue should reflect your personalities and style.
Is there space for everyone we want to invite?
Consider both ceremony and reception capacity.
What’s the backup plan for weather?
Essential if you’re planning outdoor celebrations.
What are the logistics?
Accessibility, parking, accommodation nearby, timing restrictions.
Can we have our own suppliers?
Some venues require you to use their caterers/planners; others give you complete freedom.
Does it fit our budget?
Be realistic about venue hire costs plus any additional requirements.
Ready to plan your ceremony?
Whether you’ve already chosen your venue or you’re still exploring options, I’d love to help you create a ceremony that makes the most of your chosen setting.
